For many years, the general practice in Des Peres was to snowplow in tandem. Two trucks plowed one behind the other, with the first truck cutting a path, and the second truck widening to the curb. While this cleared the entire street, it also took over four hours to plow the entire city. In order to cover more ground in a shorter amount of time, trucks will start plowing solo this year. Each of the ten drivers (eight Public Works and two Parks) will have his own route. The initial focus after a snowstorm will be clearing a path on all streets, which we should be able to accomplish in half the time by splitting the trucks. This will provide faster access to emergency services and residents trying to get in and out of their neighborhoods. After that, we can go back and clear to the curbs, when appropriate. Keep in mind that every storm is different, and adjustments will be made on-the-fly.
