[ARCHIVED] Issues with Solid Waste Pickup

A message from our solid waste hauler, Waste Connections -

All,

I want to inform each City of the issues the solid waste industry is experiencing at the moment:

1. Drivers: Due to lingering issues related to the Covid-19 pandemic, finding drivers is a great challenge facing all haulers and solid waste providers. Waste Connections is offering sign-on bonuses and numerous other incentives for new long-term employees in a continuous effort to return to the level of service we pride ourselves on.

 2. Truck Parts: Due to steel prices and effects of Covid-19, truck manufacturers are not producing some parts at a normal rate. We are diligently working towards getting our full fleet back on the streets – we’re even renting trucks. Waste Connections is a safety-first company, so we will not allow trucks on the roads of our communities unless they are in pristine and safe servicing condition.

We are diligently working to ensure all trash and recycling is serviced in each and every City; however, Yard Waste service has experienced localized disruptions. Some residents have called the City informing them of missed Yard Waste, but lots of these complaints are due to misprepared storm debris. Instead of dragging fallen limbs to the curb, residents should take time to ensure proper packaging, and that limbs are less than 4 feet in length and 18 inches in diameter. Limbs should also not exceed 50 lbs in weight. If Yard Waste is not prepared properly, our drivers are instructed to leave it because taking pictures of every incident would cause service levels to suffer even more. Storm material will be removed with Yard Waste if packaged properly on your normal scheduled pick-up day. Our drivers are abiding by City curfews and DOT hour requirements, and they are working very hard to make sure everything is picked up. The misunderstanding from the July 4th non-holiday also created a major issue.  Customers should contact Waste Connections at 636-321-2100 with comments/concerns or https://www.wasteconnections.com/contact-us/
