[ARCHIVED] Press Release - April 2 West County Center Incident

Update as of 10:50pm regarding tonight's incident at West County Center Mall: 

On April 2, 2021, at approximately 7:50 pm, the Des Peres Department of Public Safety received a call from West County Center related to a shooting incident. Numerous agencies responded to assist and secure the center. Initial investigation revealed that an altercation occurred between two groups of subjects who were familiar with each other. During the altercation a shot was fired toward the ground by one of the individuals.

Both groups of subjects attempted to flee the scene and officers were able to quickly locate and detain a person of interest and that subject is now in custody for the shooting incident. The case will be forwarded to St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s office for consideration of charges. In addition officers recovered a firearm believed to be used in this incident and a shell casing and projectile were recovered from the wall.

The investigation continues and we are currently attempting to identify the other subjects involved in the altercation. We are very thankful that no one was injured and thankful for the support of our law enforcement partners who responded to assist.
