Sidewalk Replacements
Project Summary
Since 2018, the City has hired contractors to replace around 3,000 linear feet of sidewalk each year. The City marks the locations to be removed and replaced, then the contractor performs the work. In most cases, the sidewalk is being replaced because adjacent tree roots have lifted the sidewalk, causing trip hazards. In order to combat this issue, roots are trimmed, and a product called TripStop is installed to prevent future displacement. City crews replace additional sidewalks on an emergency basis.
Please note that neither the existing nor new concrete is "colored" concrete. While there is some limestone-based concrete around the city, most of the concrete contains Meramec sand and gravel, which provides the orange/brown look. While the new concrete initially appears to be a bright white, over time, the color mellows and the top layer of cement wears off, revealing the brown sand and gravel underneath.

The 2023 Project is slated for Dougherty Ridge and Dougherty Woods subdivisions. In addition to fixing trip hazards, we intend to replace/install approximately 30 curb ramps in order to meet ADA requirements. The budget is $175,000, so the scope of the project may be adjusted once we receive bids.
Project Update and Schedule
Bids were opened on 2/21, and a contract was awarded to Kingsland Concrete Contractor by the Board of Aldermen at their 2/27 meeting. Construction should begin in April, weather permitting.
The Street Division can grind trip hazards or replace sidewalk slabs in extenuating circumstances. Call Public Works at 835-6130 to report a trip hazard.
